Ok, 14 hours at work today. 14 HOURS. Ugh, long day. Hirabayashi-san and I worked for about 5 hours straight on finding one bug... and we still couldn't find it. At least the thing still RUNS with the bug, and it doesn't seem to affect anything's functionality, but it's still extremely frustrating, to say the least. Especially since we traced the bug down to ONE LINE of code; an empty line. Ya gotta love mysteries like that! Anyway, I think I may do some readin'.

Well I ended up going to sleep after the sun had risen today - sometime after 6... I started and finished my book, that's why. Really, I shouldn't do that, it can't be good for the health.
So I don't plan on doing *anything* this weekend, well, nothing exciting. I'm going to make it a C&O 230 weekend and get a head-start on the course so I can truly bum around next summer. Oh wait, no, I can't, I'm in CS. HOw could I forget.
Sunday October 26, 1997: 8:45pm
Nothing special's going on. I'm trying to spend less money and the best way to do that is to stay home! So that's what I'm a-doin'! C&O is coming along well, I think I get it. Neat stuff. Amazing how I can study longer when I'm not in school, just because I don't feel I HAVE to. Hm..

It was definitely winter breezin' today. Windy and fresh. Cool, I like that feeling. I was minorly jealous when I heard that Waterloo had gotten SNOW. SNOW! Hell, it's only the middle of October! Ok, so I was jealous. But not for long... I only had to think about how they're going to have winter for 6 looooong months...

So work is _really_ picking up... but things seem to be slipping together quite nicely, ya know? Other than the fact that new bugs are appearing faster than I can fix the old ones... oh well, it's just an alpha.. oh! But we got the scanner working today! I mean, I've always just *simulated* the scanning action, but today we put in a document in the scanner for REAL - on a completely different computer, and scanned in the image to my computer over the network! Awesome! If we can do THAT then the rest is trivial! Trivial...

Ok so once again sensei just *stocked* me with food. Tonight is something called "oben" - it's some sort of winter soup with huge chunks of things in it. And I mean HUGE chunks - I'm talking WHOLE potatoes here. WHOLE eggs. WHOLE chikens. Ok, I'm just joking, there aren't whole chickens... anyway, it looks great! And Sensei also made apple sauce last night (but she called it "apple jam"... and meant it.. apple sauce on toast? I dunno) and of course it looks yummy too. I tried to tell her that really, she'd given me plenty already... but she told me that the apple-man was coming tomorrow anyway... wait, did she say "the apple-man"?? Oh yes, the guy who brings you apples right to your door. I swear, this country *defines* the word convenience!
As for tonight's lesson, the kanji was "shakai to bunka", or "society and culture". It was quite difficult.
So I don't think I'll be getting home til 11.. wah. Tomorrow night I'm going to dinner with Mikako-chan somewhere, so that should be fun. Guarantees me little sleep though.. hmph. What's new?

Wow, a barrage of Japanese! It's amazing how many words are spoken in comparison to how many I actually understand! Anyway, tonight was dinner with Mikako-chan. I met her in Kichioji, where she works, and we went to a Thai restaurant. On the way there though, we bumped into her friend who played in the band 2 weeks ago! What a coincidence! I mean, it's not as though it's easy to bump into someone you know in Tokyo. But to bump into the ONE GIRL I happen to know as well... cool. So we chatted for awhile.
Ooo, and we got distracted byt a second hand clothing store! Cool - I like Kichioji! Second hand clothes! Awesome.
Ah, so we couldn't have even ordered before 8:30 or 9 - Mikako-chan was worried about ordering something too spicy so we played it safe and got "regular" stuff (cuz we were gonna share) - but some if it was way too hot for her. It was quite funny to see her try and eat it actually.. hee hee.
And part-way through dinner she brings up LICORICE! I mean, of *all things*, she picks my favourite hirukai topic! So I explained the whole story to her... she's tried it before, but only the black kind. So I tol her that the red stuff is much better.
Ah, I explained "truth or dare" to Mikako-chan -- that was fun! At first she didn't get it because whether you pick "truth" or "dare", you still have to do something you don't want to do... and why would you want to play a game like that?!? Hahaha! So true. I don't know what the allure is in that game, but..
I also invited her over for pancakes sometime, ya know, she thinks pancakes are the things you buy at McDonalds (which, BTW, she said were quite good). This simply must be fixed!
We ate at the restaurant (called "Tom Yum's") until a quarter past 10 or so... the waiter kinda kicked us out cuz they were closing. Ooo - we made tentative plans for Nikko... September 16th. Cool, the day right after Disneyland - it's gonna be one busy weekend!
