The J-Files: Episode Thirty-Six

Friday January 16, 1998: 9pm

A very cool thing happened today - Microsoft seems to ge looking at me for employment when I didn't even apply! Ha, that's pretty funky. And funny. Now although I complain plenty (plenty) about their products, I still know they carry a bit of pres tige. Anyway, Levon said a guy phoned me in Waterloo to talk to me about my resume, and then I also received an email from some dude. Gee how flattering! They obviously don't know my work! Anyway, I'm gonna think about it I guess, I mean, it's not lik e they offered me a job, but I may send them a resume, I dunno.

Went out to dinner tonight with Hirabayashi-san, Gupta-san, and Ichii-san. Since we had to work today (see last Thursday's entry for explanation), it was quite a pleasant way to end off a work day. Originally we had plan ned to go to some Japanese restaurant, but since Hidaka-san was home sick today, we decided to postpone that, and just head over to Mayur, the Indian restaurant. Yummy!

Well we were there from 7 to 10, so quite awhile. It was hilarious! Hirabayashi-san told me that I have to make sure I keep in touch when I leave - like at least send a postcard or something - and he added in, Well, until you get married that is - once you get married don't bother. A comment to which I laughed uncontrollably - I was like, I see... so if I get married, that's it? I'm outta here?! He explained to me that if I got married I'd become a housewife and so I wouldn't be interested in w orking. Hmph, is that right eh? Hahaha!! Crazy. So I told him that my husband will do all the housework... my mother taught me well!

And Hirabayashi-san is also trying to convince both Gupta-san and I to stay longer - he's giving us "bribes" like - "Oh, we're gonna have a big party.. you should stay on an extra month or 2 so you can go, it'll be lotsa fun!" Hahaha, he's crazy!

Oh yeah, and I have to remember to ask anyone I know in Waterloo if they want to work in Japan [ed. note: Any Waterloo student out there want to work in Japan? Tell me!!] For some reason they think they won't get anyone this year. I don't think t here will be a problem.

So I got something in the mail yesterday 'bout the Nagano Olympics - seems as though maybe (I'm not positive though) they may give me free accomodation. Now I was planning on staying at Jason's place, but that requires me to leave his apartment at 3 :15 AM to get to IBC on time. But in Nagano, I could leave at 4:30. It's worth thinkin' about if it's free.

Wednesday January 21, 1998: 9pm

Hmmm. Sensei wasn't there tonight - that's really strange. It's always possible, of course, that she just got back late, because I'm always the first student and I was a bit early today. Anyway I went back home and finished off a book I'd been rea ding instead.

Thursday January 22, 1998:

Aren't I in a chipper mood today. I know because at lunch time I was roaming around the aisles of Alps for some grub, and I noticed that I was singing along to the Alps jingle that they play on the loudspeakers: "da na na na - da na na na - A-ru-pu -su..". Those aren't the exact words, but it's as close as I get. I think I go there too often. But at least I wasn't as bad as the dude who was just going around talking to himself (loud) - telling jokes and laughing - yet, I was the only one who foun d this a bit odd. Ok, I won't ask questions.
