And today I got an email from Alex [ed note: my ultra-cool cousin] telling me that he's coming to Tokyo for a visit in 3 weeks! Waaa!! this is gonna be so much fun! He'll only be here for 6 days, but that's better than nothing! Oh, we'll have ad ventures for sure.
Then to top off my day, I got a call from Andre tonight! Talk about a surprise! He called at 4am!! His time, of course. It was great to talk to him - but it makes me realize how soon I'll be leaving, but on the other hand, how soon I'll back. Mm
mm pizza...

I started reading Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder last night, and although I have never taken much of an interest in the history of philosophy (the book is a novel on the history of philosophy) I'm finding it fascinating! I really *should*
know more about philosophy though, because it is so closely related to mathematics, which I love. The book is making me thing.. ow..

Well I got a great start today! I was up by 6:30 (on purpose!), did the usual route, was back home, showered, and fed by 9, and had settled back into the depths of Sophie's World. It's really fascinating! Each time a new philosophy is expla ined, I usually agree with it until the next one comes along - and the philosophers were really just amazing! Anyway I finished the book just a couple of minutes ago, and by the end it quite ressembled Goedel Escher Bach by Hoffstader (sp?). Quit e. So much so that I may even try to get Mikey to read it. Maybe.
This morning Jon called too! Not that it had anything to do with philosophy, it was just another thought. It was really fun to talk to him - my! do I ever babble now! Like, worse than before!! Hahaha. Ah, all these phone calls make me nostalgic .
After chattin' with Jon, I headed into work to catch up on a few non-work related things. I finally submitted an article to Travel AsiaNet, I've been lazy getting that out. Man, I can tell that my grammar is just horrible, but what canna do? Oh I also starting typing the Beppu stuff I've compiled. Could take a loooong while.
Neat weather today - Spring temperature and Spring smells. The plum trees have bloomed too! Then later tonight a huge storm moved in with plenty of thunder too. Eee! Now though, I'm pooped. Shouldn't get up so early on Saturdays, serves me right
.

Spring yesterday, winter today. Snow! Slushy snow, but snow nonetheless. This place is really weird.
Today I spent my day reading. Simmon [ed: this is not Hirooka Simon, but Simmon] had sent me this book Runaway Me by his friend Evan Karl Cutler, and it looked interesting. I read it from cover to cover, and it didn't let me down! Wow, mak
es me feel so lucky to be who I am - the book is a true story about the author when he ran away from home at age 15, and how he survived on the street. A lot of spunk to make it, wow. I am very impressed.

Man, I wish I were a bit more organized. Trust ME to leave the booking of my flight home 'til the last minute. Well, the last minute in flying terms. Ok the truth is that the booking wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't - uh - hadn't lost my ticket. Actually, I threw it out. Of course it's not like I intentionally threw out my ticket - I just didn't know it was what it was... it was just the carbon paper left over from my flight over... and usually I throw that part out. But this time I kept it any ways, all year, up until a month ago. I decided to go through some of my junk and throw the trash away... bye bye ticket. Argh! So now I hvae to get in touch with SuperDeals (the travel Agency in Canada where I bought my ticket) to see if they can reis sue it. I emailed Sariya to see if she could do that for me, being a bit closer to Burlington (where SuperDeals is) than me.
Ah but they have this perfect flight, time-wise, on the Thursday that still has seats, so I want my ticket fast so I can book 'em!!
Wednesday March 4, 1998: 9am
Oh nooooo! NOOOO!! This is so horrible, I don't believe it. Sariya emailed me back this morning with the news that she'd talked with SuperDeals and... and that with my kind of ticket, once you've lost it, that's IT! Gone. Vamoos. Not getting it back, no reissuing... Oh this cannot be right. I could cry. Maybe I will. Or maybe I'll call JAL again and try to figure it from some other way.
4pm
*sigh* so I'm on my way to the JAL office in Shinjuku. I phoned a couple of different people this morning and they all told me that I could come in to file a lost ticket report, and maybe (a big maybe) they could reissue my ticket. But it a in't lookin' good..
6pm
Hm well, the JAL lady said she could telex SuperDeals and try to get my ticket number from them, but that's my only hope. See, JAL doesn't have my ticket number anymore because THEY'VE ALREADY ERASED THE FILES FROM LAST MAY!!! Incredible! My ticke t is still valid and yet they've erased all record of it! It's times like these that I wish computers didn't exist...
On the other hand thought, I came to the sudden realization that we could all be living on a huge Snickers bar. As in the universe could just be one big Snickers, on a different time scale. This revelation came to me as I was munching one of these
bars a few minutes ago (Snickers: part of any nutritionally balanced dinner). I think I shouldn't read about philosophy anymore...
Thursday March 5, 1998: 3pm
Yes! Yes yes yes yes!! JAL lady phoned, and said "We got your number!"!!! !!! Oh I'm SO happy! Incredible. I was positive that SuperDeals would've chucked my file alerady. Ohman this is so releiving! Party!
And then to top it off, I booked a flight too! The Thursday flight was already full (and it had >10 seats open on Monday!) so I got the one on the Wednesday. Perfect!!!! Wow. Now all I have to do is go pick up my ticket sometime!!
La la la la la, la la lalalalala. Happy happy..
