Simon and buds

SIMON & BUDS IN INOKASHIRAKOEN

Ok, so this one was taken in Inokashirakoen (lit. Inokashira park), which is really the neatest place. We were just hangin' out, eatin' candy and listening to all the music people were playing. There were busquers everywhere, and the wwweirdest instruments I've ever seen! It was really great. Of course, there was the occasional bad singer, but you could just go and find someone you thought sounded good and hang around there. I guess that's what everyone else was doing cuz there were just loads of people there.

Sensei's Sensei's Calligraphy SENSEI KITAGAWA'S SENSEI'S CALLIGRAPHY

This is me, in front of my calligraphy teacher's teacher's (no, I'm not repeating myself, it's my teacher's teacher's) peice of calligraphy. Cool, huh. This, along with a lot of other calligraphy (including my own teacher's) was being displayed down in the Asakusa area. My boss took Gupta-san and I to go see it. Absolutely amazing. Each peice can take anywhere from one month to 8 months, or something like that. You need a LOT of patience, to get it right. That's because you can't make one mistake.. if you do then you've got to start over. Oh, the frustration!

Sensei's Calligraphy

SENSEI KITAGAWA'S CALLIGRAPHY

And this is a picture of Sensei, Gupta-san and I in front of Sensei's own work! Isn't it great! Maybe you can tell that hers is in a different style than the other one pictured above. There are something like 5 styles... each from its own time period. The older styles ressemble pictures more - a bit like heiroglyphics. Also, the reeeally old ones don't include kanji (Chinese characters) because they hadn't made their way into the Japanese writing style yet. Neat-o.

Enoshima Beach

ENOSHIMA BEACH

Jason and I went for a little trek to Enoshima beach a few weekends ago. It's a really famous place, so actually my guide book said to not go because of the crowds. But I wanted a beach... so I took my chances. As it turns out, it was great! A real beach kind of place. Sure, there were lots of people, but the beach itself was so long that we could still find plenty of places to sit. Well, to give you an idea of how crowded it was, look at the picture and add lots of people because I took that picture when we were leaving, and many people had already left already.

Enoshima Island ENOSHIMA ISLAND

And this is Enoshima island, which I didn't actually go to.. but, I intended to! OK, I guess what's neat about the island is that there's a temple there, and some kind of escalator which attaches the mainland to the island, I think. That could be cool, you know, an outdoor escalator taking you to the island. Unfortunately, we ran outta time for that. Maybe next time. I'll keep ya posted.
